Aion is a beautiful, well-polished, well-presented game
There's not enough PVP or PVE content alone; you have to engage in both. Two weeks ago, when I wrote my first impressions of the game, I thought flying was overrated. Indeed, the only time people ever use their flight ability outside the Abyss is to gather crafting resources from aether nodes floating in the sky, and that's because most places in Asmodae and Elysia are no-fly zones. However, gliding is permitted even in those zones and once you get the hang of it, all you need is a slightly elevated spot as a jump-off point and you can glide to your destination much more quickly than by running there. But then again in this context, flying or gliding is really nothing more than a travel power or a mount. Flying combat on the other hand, is a whole new experience. It's exhilarating, challenging and definitely adds a new layer of strategy to consider in PvP. It's not just the fact that you have a third dimension to think about in battle, but also that your flight time is limited so strategy and quick thinking really matter. The Abyss is definitely something that needs to be experienced to be truly appreciated.
Aion is a beautiful, well-polished, well-presented game that introduces a new combat mechanic in fantasy MMOs, fighting on wings. In fact, it's such a lovely game that we wish there were more of it. While it offers something for both PvE and PvP-oriented players, it will only truly appeal to those who enjoy both, as the full Aion experience can only be achieved both by leveling up through quests and by playing in the Abyss when you're strong enough. The developers have actually added a great deal of PvE content in the process of localizing it for the North American/ European market and the potential is definitely there for the game to grow in that aspect but as it stands, ultimately the heart and soul of Aion is the Abyss. So obviously, if you enjoy both aspects in an MMO, Aion is definitely for you.
